Philosophy and the Mind Sciences (PhiMiSci, https://philosophymindscience.org/) – a fully cost-free, interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed, diamond open access journal that is indexed in, among others, DOAJ, CrossRef, and SCOPUS – is seeking to increase its editorial board. We aim to expand our editor-in-chief team from currently 3 to up to 5; furthermore, we would like to expand our associate editor team from currently 15 to up to 20. Applications from candidates who contribute to making our team more diverse (especially regarding their areas of competence and their regions of residence) are particularly welcome.
We invite applications for the following (unpaid) positions:
1. Editors-in-Chief
We are seeking experienced team players who can help guide our editorial team and shape the future of our journal. The ideal candidates will have a strong background in philosophy informed by the mind sciences and experience with editorial projects.
Responsibilities (together with the other editors-in-chief):
- Make decisions about future special issues and book symposia
- Manage presubmission inquiries and relationships with the academic community
- Manage article production
- Manage desk rejections and review process
- Manage post-publication activities, including advertising
Qualifications:
- PhD in philosophy
- Research focus at the interface of philosophy and the mind sciences
- Proven experience in editorial roles, e.g., as journal editor or editor of special issues and edited collections
2. Associate Editors
We are also seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Associate Editors to join our editorial team. As an Associate Editor, you would focus on one of two main areas: One, you could play a crucial role in the peer review process, working closely with authors and reviewers to ensure the publication of high-quality research. Alternatively, you could support the editorial team in one of the other editorial stages.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the peer review process for submitted manuscripts
OR
- Provide support in the presubmission, production, or post-publication processes
Qualifications:
- PhD in philosophy or one of the mind sciences (including psychology and cognitive neuroscience)
- Experience in academic publishing or peer review
- Specialisation in a field that is relevant to PhiMiSci, e.g.:
- Consciousness
- Mental Representation
- Ethics (e.g., neuroethics, AI ethics, …)
- Empirical research
- Philosophy of Neuroscience
- Philosophy of Psychology
- Philosophy of Perception
- Phenomenology
- Indian philosophy
- Buddhist philosophy
- Feminist philosophy
- Philosophy of AI
